I discovered a very human herd mentality as my camera, my guide Jennifer and I observed seals from the bluffs along Carpinteria’s Coastal Vista Trail. These young parents left hustle and bustle of the deep Pacific to start their new families in the suburban sanctuary of this protected Seal Rookery. A new born pup opens her weary eyes for the first time. A toddler in a wading pool stretches out for his mother’s kiss, while an adolescent avoids his mother’s embrace. Leisurely neighbors watch a precocious kid splash around feeling like this place is for the birds.
